Event Day Information

Hi All

Firstly can we thank everyone for getting involved in the second Women’s Cancer Challenge. We have been thrilled with the response; we now have over 450 entries!

Here is some basic information about the day itself, so here goes:-

Car Parking

There will be limited parking at Lews Castle College; however, we would be very grateful if where possible you could park elsewhere and walk to the start or share cars to ensure there will be enough space. The last thing we want is to block the road past the Golf Club and cause an obstruction for other users of the Castle Grounds.

Your ‘Big Day’ Preparation

Make sure you are well hydrated in the morning – you never know it might be warm and sunny! (We can live in hope!) Make sure you bring a water bottle/container with you – we will provide water on the course and at the finish area but you really should not need additional water during the event if you have ‘topped up’ well beforehand. Don’t wear new shoes – you might look really cool but blisters are not! Similarly, don’t wear any clothing you have not used before and don’t forget that the liberal use of Vaseline and talcum powder can prevent unpleasant chafing! If you are asthmatic, please bring your inhaler with you. If you have any other medical condition that you think event organisers should know about please give us a call in advance

Event Start

The event will start in the car park at Lews Castle College at 12pm. We aim to start the event in three distinct groups: everyone who is aiming to run all the way at the front; people who are hoping to run a little and walk a little in the middle and everyone who intends to walk all the way at the rear. This will hopefully stop people tripping over each other – it could get messy! As you will see from the map, the course is essentially ‘out and back’ along the same route. We would ask everyone to stay on the left hand side of the route. There is one narrow section just before the turning point at the mouth of the River Creed – please take care with oncoming human traffic!

If you wish to pay in any sponsor money, the account is ‘Women’s Cancer Challenge’ at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Sort code is 83-27-12 and account number is 00685150

We hope that answers the most common questions – if you need any more information, call us in the evening on 672386 or you can reach Tony during the day on 707458 / 07792 061210.

Thanks once again for getting involved. We are all doing the event for our own very personal reasons and it is fitting that the Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK who do such a fantastic job will be the beneficiaries of your generosity.

Best wishes

Tony and Kirsty Wade
